FADM - Special Protection Area
The spatial representation for a Designated Area, Protected Area Strategy Study Area, ELU Act Protected Area, or Wilderness Area. A Designated Area is an area protected from harvesting activities by Order-in-Council as per part 15 of the Forest Act. A Protected Area Strategy Study Area is an area of land and water set aside to protect natural heritage, cultural heritage or recreational values (may include national park, provincial park, or ecological reserve designations). An ELU Act Protected Area is Crown land designated under the Environment and Land Use Act of British Columbia whose management and development is detailed by the Act. The management and operation of a protected area is, for all intents and purposes, managed like a Class "A" Park with the notable exception that a use or activity (which is specified in the designating O/C) which would not be permitted if the site was designated under the Park Act will be allowed to continue. A Wilderness Area is a part of the Provincial forest designated by order-in-council as wilderness under authority of Section 5.1 of the Forest Act. Wilderness is defined as an area of land generally greater than 1000 hectares that predominantly retains its natural character and on which the impact of humans is transitory and, in the long run, substantially unnoticeable.
